Illustration: Character Designs

Purpose

The FCAT Explorer project allowed me to be very creative designing characters that would help bring the lessons to the life. One reading lesson called the "Reading Odyssey" involved anthropomorphic animals on vacation in space. They travelled on a "Rabbit Bago" that hopped from planet to planet having adventures as they went. If students did well on the tests, they could watch an animation and get points towards a prize. These characters and animations were geared towards young learners between third and fourth grade.

These characters were used to promote healthy diet in the FCAT Explorer application. Each anthropomorphic animal represented a different part of a healthy diet. The Brittany Butterfly represented breakfast, the Wade Water Buffalo repesented lunch, the Chuck Cheetah represented dinner and the Tom Turtle represented healthy snacks throughout the day.

The character of Catrina was also part of the healthy diet storyline but was a villain that promoted bad eating habits.

These characters were concepts for greeting cards.
